Designer Profile: Julia Ivanska

Julia’s interest in art and fashion started from a young age when would recycle her mom’s old clothing, as a result of that, recycling is particularly close to her. Julia made her first steps into fashion design when she studied arts in Ukraine. From there she showed her first collection in the Marais showroom in Paris then participated in Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Kiev.  She constantly tries to improve herself as it is one of her main goals . Design is the one thing that she will always love, and love working in. She usually draws inspiration from nature.  The inspiration behind her sketch comes from a swan, especially the voluminous sleeves that represent wings. The white colour symbolizes purity, grace and weightlessness. For the material she chose to use white sugar bags and canvas. Julia believes that fashion designers should think more about the environment, especially recycling, because it is an important subject that touches us all. This is why Julia has taken on this opportunity to contribute to sustaining and improving the environment. She believes that we need to be able to display clothing that can be both fashionable and eco-friendly.

Designer Profile: Kittisak Mainthong

Did you know that in the EcoFashion Lab contest we also have international contestants? Kittisak Mianthong, is a third year student majoring in Fashion and Textile Design at Bangkok University. Kittisak's interest in art began since he was very young and likes to recycle his old clothes by making a brand new outfit from it. Those are just some of many reasons why Kittisak enjoys studying fashion. For him, fashion is an art form of storytelling through clothes. Fashion can refect the situation that happens in each period. In a way, the art of design is like chapter that is written down to tell the story of the world. Kittisak's EcoFashion garment is inspired by the bleaching coral crisis, which is happening in the oceans around the world. It is caused by the effects of global warming. The main techniques Kittisak use to adapt the features of coral are the technique of draping and colour dying. The draping technique allows fabric to move elegantly with the dress. And the colour dying technique uses natural colouring which is environmentally friendly. The monochromatic colour shade of the garment mirrors the bleached feature of the coral reef. Furthermore, Kittisak also uses recycled plastic bottles to incorporate details for a more interesting and modern style. The style of Kittisak's design reflects a silhouette that is futuristic and minimalistic.

Designer Profile: Matìas Andrés Rossi

Matìas Andrés Rossi is only 19 years old and has a defined passion for fashion that he expresses through studying fashion design. He enjoys working in conceptual design and discovering unique combinations that complement each other. Matìas’ dress is constructed without seams. Instead he used a frayed crochet. This handmade technique allows two pieces of material to be joined without an overconsumption of energy.

Matìas believes that fashion sustainability is important because being eco-conscious is a way of taking responsibility for the world, and can be done so as a form of social and personal expression. It is important that the fashion industry has pursued this cause in open arms. Matìas is glad to see that more and more designers and textile companies join this movement every day.

Designer Profile: Anna Prestigiacomo

Anna Prestigiacomo’s passion for fashion began in New York city where she was born and raised.  Through her education and internship experiences at various companies in Italy, Anna has found her own sense of aesthetic in the art of fashion.  Anna has also gained a sensibility towards a goal to create outfits that translate the desired allure without altering the natural way of being.  Anna Prestigiacomo’s collections are created by series of design and developmental work that aims to strengthen charisma, elegance, and confidence in her customers.

Anna Prestigiacomo presents a dress that is made of recycled fabric that combines light and shadows with the form of movement of simple and durable lines.  This design bring out a dress that has her own edgy attitude, yet fully respecting the environment.
